The concept of the wafer switch was first proposed by a professor of Leningrad Electrotechnical University in 1922. Construction OF Reed Relays

The reed relay switch is a sealed glass housing consisting of two reeds made of a magnetically sensitive material, such as a ferromagnetic material. The glass housing of the relay is filled with dry inert gas to avoid contact oxidation. Electromagnetic wires are wound around the switch, which acts like an armature. Therefore, both ends of the reed switch need only be connected to the input and output of the circuit.

The reeds are at both ends of the relay. Once an axial magnetic field is applied to these blades, they come into contact with each other and form repeatable electrical contacts. In this type of relay, the magnetic field is generated by a coil covered with a glass housing.
