A bad oil pressure sensor usually does not directly cause a power outage. How To Determine The Oil Level Fault

For traditional fuel or hybrid vehicles, the amount of oil in the fuel tank directly determines driving safety. So how does the gauge show how much fuel is left in the tank? The sensing part of the capacitive automobile oil level sensor is a coaxial container. When the fuel is entered into the container, the capacitance between the sensor housing and the induction electrode changes, and the standard current of 4-20mA is output through the conversion of the hardware circuit, and then displayed on the combined instrument. The same sensor can change the measuring medium and the measuring environment at any time, without re-calibration, and is almost unaffected by changes in dielectric constant and temperature. The working principle of the resistive automotive oil level sensor can be understood as a sliding rheostat, and the resistance value is controlled by a float and changes with the amount of oil. When the load voltage is fixed, the output current will change. The current value is directly reflected in the combined instrument through the hardware circuit. Generally, the fuel tank shape of each model is different, so the change of resistance value does not necessarily show a linear relationship. The resistance type is simple in structure and low in cost, and is adopted by most models. The general resistance value varies from a few Ω to 1KΩ.

How to determine whether the oil level sensor is faulty?

1, the whole vehicle power off, and then start the engine, let the combined instrument self-test;

2. Measure whether the resistance value of the oil level sensor is within the specified range according to the vehicle circuit diagram. When measuring, pay attention to turn off the engine first. Because the oil level sensor is mostly arranged under the rear seat, it is difficult to disassemble and assemble the seat, so it is recommended to measure the resistance from the combined instrument;

3. If it still doesn't work, you can only remove the seat, unplug the sensor connector, and measure the wiring harness on and off, short circuit, open circuit, etc.
