Ultra-Fast Connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 Opens A New Era OF Wireless Networking

Qorvo continues to meet the needs of consumers in the smart home market, driving seamless connectivity between smart home devices. 

Qorvo uses exciting cutting-edge technologies such as Wi-Fi 7, Matter, ultra-Wideband (UWB) to develop connected products and devices for smart home automation, secure access, and adaptive experiences.

On January 9, 2024, the Wi-Fi Alliance, an organization that maintains and develops Wi-Fi standards, officially announced that it has completed and launched the certification of the Wi-Fi 7 advanced wireless standard. 

Applicable end products can be officially CERTIFIED and marketed as "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7™." As the next generation wireless communication technology standard, Wi-Fi 7 introduces a number of breakthrough technologies such as 320MHz bandwidth, Multi-Link Operation (MLO),

 4096 quadrantal amplitude modulation (4K QAM), and flexible channel selection. It will bring higher data transfer rates, lower latency and stronger network connection stability, providing users with a smoother and more efficient network experience.

Qorvo's technological innovation has made significant progress in this area, not only providing a complete wireless RF Front-End Module (FEM) and filter solutions, 

but also taking into account the advantages of low power consumption and small package, which can provide more space and flexibility for product development.

Wi-Fi 7 has brought many technological breakthroughs, but it also puts higher requirements on the RF front end, such as the need for more front end modules (FEMs), achieving EVM of at least -47dB, compatibility with digital predistortion (DPD),

 efficient use of discontinuous spectrum, and enhanced filtering performance to improve signal isolation.

Jeff Lin, Senior Marketing Manager of Qorvo's Wireless Connectivity Business unit in Asia Pacific, said in his speech: "In order to meet the new challenges of Wi-Fi 7, Qorvo adopts the nonlinear FEM+DPD solution, 

which not only solves the EVM problem well, but also realizes a great improvement in power efficiency, such as the triple-frequency 12-stream router using Qorvo's nonlinear FEMs. It is expected to save about 6 watts (~ 6W) of power. 

In addition, Qorvo offers a range of filters for Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 specifically for different radio bands, from U-NII-1 to U-NII-8."

Jeff Lin introduced Qorvo's Wi-Fi 7-compliant Front End Module devices and "bulk acoustic wave" (BAW) filters that cover the entire 5GHz (UNII1-3) and 6GHz (UNII5-8) spectrum. Qorvo's FEM modules are both linear and nonlinear. Linear Wi-Fi 7 FEM has excellent Linearity, low power consumption, small package and high integration. Nonlinear front-end RF modules dramatically reduce power consumption while maximizing PAE. This innovative nonlinear front-end RF module scheme uses digital predistortion compensation technology to achieve performance comparable to linear FEM with virtually no processor power consumption and with greater efficiency.

With "Smart" Efficiency, BMS Solutions Improve Battery life And Safety

At present, more and more devices are gradually moving from the traditional internal combustion engine drive or AC power to more flexible and efficient battery-powered models. 

In this context, how to ensure the safety, stability and service life of the battery has become the focus of the industry. Qorvo continues to expand its presence in the power sector, addressing the power supply, 

protection and control needs of the industrial, enterprise, consumer and automotive sectors with a broad portfolio of products such as power management chips (PMIC), power outage protection (PLP), DC/DC regulators,

 battery management, intelligent motor control and silicon carbide products. Qorvo also offers QSPICE software for analog and mixed-signal simulation to improve engineers' productivity. Qorvo Power products provide the industry with low power consumption, compact and efficient solutions.

When it comes to smart battery management technology, Qorvo's innovative integration of high-performance MCUS and analog front ends (AFEs) into a single chip not only simplifies the system architecture, but also improves system performance, reliability and intelligence. 

This is the industry's first BMS solution that supports precise management of up to 20 strings of cells in a single chip. Qorvo's BMS solution focuses on integrated design, Gauging, SOC, 

SOH and other algorithms integrated into the chip to effectively improve the accuracy and speed of data acquisition and calculation, and improve the flexibility of the battery management system.

To date, Qorvo BMS chip products have been mass-produced in two series: PAC2214x and PAC2514x, both of which are single-chip solutions. 

Among them, the PAC2214x has a built-in Arm Cortex-M0 MCU with a main frequency of 50MHZ and a Flash capacity of 32KB. The PAC2514x uses an Arm Cortex-M4 MCU with an increased frequency of 150 MHZ and a Flash capacity of 128KB. 

At the same time, Qorvo's BMS chip optimizes and manages battery efficiency and life based on the six functions of charge and discharge management, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, 

battery monitoring, battery equalization, and low power control for the two major needs of battery management and long life.

Yichi Zhang, Senior Account Manager at Qorvo, said: "Qorvo's single-chip battery management solution uses hybrid digital-analog technology and integrates controller, storage and communication interfaces to provide comprehensive charge and discharge control and monitoring for battery packs with up to 20 cells in series (lithium ion, lithium polymer and lithium iron phosphate, etc.). With a wealth of hardware and software development resources, this solution can significantly reduce customer development cycles, reduce product costs, and improve product reliability and flexibility."
