Germanium diode (Ge) is a semiconductor device made of germanium. Compared with silicon diodes, germanium diodes have lower breakdown voltage and are suitable for some low-power application scenarios. In addition, the noise figure of germanium diodes is smaller than that of silicon diodes, so it has a certain application in some amplifier circuits.
A germanium diode is composed of two differentially doped germanium semiconductor crystal sheets connected by a PN junction. The performance of germanium diodes is superior to silicon diodes in some respects, such as its greater adaptability to temperature changes, due to its smaller pyroelectric coefficient.
